~*~:bulletred::bulletred::bulletred::bulletred::bulletred::bulletred::bulletred:~*~

The claws raked down his flank like a trail of white hot knives, making the centaur’s leg momentarily lock up and collapse from the brutal pain tearing through his mind. A loud shriek sounded next to him, and Theseus gritted his teeth and forced himself to roll on his back, striking out a foot and nailing the monster in the side of its massive, open jaws. The powerful blow caused the beast to stumble back, stunned, and it clenches its face with a howl. The centaur, with a loud outcry to fight off the fresh wound on his thigh, as well as some that managed to rake across part of his back, he rolled back onto his feet and forced himself up, just as the massive brute charged up at him. The robust infected struck out his back legs at the striped monster and nailed him in the chest, sending him flying back and snapping a thick branch with a loud crack.

Theseus panted and turned his head around to look at his thigh, pain scrunched up in pain as twisting his torso also stung the wounds on his back. He wiped his mouth, as before his thigh was almost gashed off the other beast threw a fist and nearly knocked his teeth out. A knot welled up in his throat as pain even greater than the wounds upon his flesh rattled his mind. A pained hiss sounded in front of him, and Theseus turned his torso back forward as the beast yards before him shook its gigantic head before flashing towards Theseus with wild, unintelligent eyes.

They lacked their luster… their hope, brilliance… life…

…They lacked everything.

“Would you SNAP out of it!?” Theseus roared, forcing power through agonized lungs and emotions to keep his head held high. The jaws of the monster before him started to clack, and a maddening grin stretched the corners of its bloody lips. “Can you even hear me?!”

The creature in front of him stood tall, the form lanky, sickly even with skin stretched and loose around its throat to show just how underweight it was. However, this monster packed a terrible punch, and those teeth shattered the bracer on his right foreleg. It was a stroke of luck from the heavens above that he didn’t lose his leg. The creature bore small, short arms underneath its massive ones whose knuckles dragged across the earth over the slow stalk towards Theseus. The monster’s eyes were huge and almost seemed to bug out of the skull. The pupils were so small in this dim light, yet it somehow could see perfectly. Theseus forced himself to stare back into those eyes to show he wouldn’t back down, and to see if his old friend was… somewhere, anywhere, within there. There was nothing of the old friend. There was only madness.

Rattled breathing came from the beast as if its lungs were partially blocked by mucus, and the sound of it sent chills through Theseus’s body and his stomach to do flips.

‘You did this to me.’

Those words were repeated like a madman when Theseus finally caught Carth after the man had disappeared for months after the deaths of a few loved ones. He was underweight, and blamed Theseus for everything while muttering to himself and either pulling hair off of his balding head or pulling skin off of his own arms like he was trying to get an itch underneath them. He kept muttering about surrendering to the madness, to find peace, and then Carth changed into this… this thing.

This monster.

Theseus stomped his hooves down with a loud bellow of power, ducking his head as Carth’s body suddenly indicated he was about to charge. Theseus kicked off the ground and charged. Carth howled in shock at the charge and tried to jump up, but Theseus was faster and holding back a shed of tears, plowed straight into the gut of his friend with a sickening crunch.

The monster screamed with a sound Theseus hoped to never hear, but he kept up the charge until a tree stopped him, Carth’s mutated spine dug straight into the bark as the tall tree started to topple back. Theseus yanked his head back, his eyes wide to the world around him, as if sightless, and backed a few footsteps away. He felt his lungs become strained to the point of suffocation, and he had to pound his chest a few times to try and fight off the panic attack as hot blood started to pour down his face and across his vision.

Before him Carth thrashed, and Theseus bit back his tongue with a shake of his shoulders, as Carth’s bellows seemed to turn into wheezes, like he was laughing. The beast placed its massive fists down and pushed its torso forward, causing a gush of blood to come from its stomach, but strangely no organs started to peak themselves out, but Theseus didn’t want to keep his eyes there. Carth struggled for a moment as he pulled up, the tree moving up with him before his spikes came free and the tree fell down with a deep thud. The moment it happened though, Carth suddenly threw himself forward and swung his large arm straight at Theseus, who managed to rear back out of the way, but Carth’s moving momentum forward couldn’t allow Theseus escape his smaller, sharper talons that raked across his forearm. The bull willed his mind to ignore it as he thrust his hooves forward, forcing Carth onto one knee from the blow of it, but the monster threw his larger fist down to keep his balance while the other suddenly darted and grappled Theseus around the throat.

Those eyes stared straight up at him, and the sound that came out of Carth’s throat nearly made Theseus go deaf, let alone from the loud crack of thunder that struck down from the sky near their location. With one last attempt, Theseus threw his arm back and punched Carth across the jaw, knocking him back, but the head whipped back around and opened wide, its head tilted down with a wild stare as his smaller arm grabbed Theseus’s foot around his chest and twisted, and in a final attempt to try and fight through his vision that suddenly went white from the pain, Theseus grabbed the hair of Carth’s main to pull back, preventing Carth from lunging forward with those jaws, before he then threw his arm back, teeth gritted with brows furrowed in determination.

He had to stop Carth before it was too late, before it was too late for either of them.

He prayed at his bedside before he finally found Carth, and he could only hope that the Lord heard his prayers.

There had to be another way to save his friend from damnation. There had to be something else… other than death.

IAMFINALLYDONETHISOMGSQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PHEW I am so glad that this is finally finished. By far the most difficult drawing I have ever done so far. Tried out a ton of new things and learned so much while doing it. One thing is for sure, I reeeeeeally need to practice with backgrounds before I take on another commission that requires a more complex background.

This commission is of :iconpaladinofthelantern:'s character Theseus, in his Evolution form (or whatever the name of that form will be called), fighting against my character Carth's Evolution form. Pretty much if Carth ever gained this form through a very strenuous and maddening series of events, plus Ebbe always trying to destroy and take over his mind, he would have to be put down. However, that won't stop Theseus from trying.

I really hope you like it Paladin! If you want anything changed, just drop a note or state in the comments.
